Our story started with two women and two dreams that just happened to collide at the perfect moment.
Melissa - Melissa's Second Chances was flourishing and when the vet clinic next door closed down in December 2025, an opportunity became available for the rescue to take over both sides. Melissa always dreamed of having an on-staff veterinarian and offering low cost vet care to the community, but it seemed like a far off in the future plan.
Dr. Stafford - After leaving corporate veterinary medicine, Dr. Stafford transitioned to rescue only medicine, but still missed the ability to form connections with owners, manage longterm complicated surgical and medical cases, and seeing pets over the course of their lifetime. She still loved rescue/shelter medicine too and always dreamed of practice ownership, but that too seemed impossible.
The moment - When deciding to leave rescue only medicine and transition back to more of a private general practice setting, Dr. Stafford mentioned to Melissa "you have the perfect infrastructure already here for a vet clinic, it's too bad we couldn't figure out how to open something here that would benefit the public as well as other rescues." Melissa's response was simple "what will it take?"
The execution - Over the next 2-3 months, those dreams became a reality and Second Chances Animal Clinic was born.

Helping animals by day, raising two humans by night. Life is a mix of fur, chaos, and fresh air—gardening, kayaking, and finding any excuse to be outside. Dina has been in veterinary medicine for over 20 years.
Hi! My name is Peyton, and I’m a veterinary assistant with a passion for caring for animals and helping them live happy, healthy lives. I’ve been working in veterinary medicine for 4 years and I truly enjoy being able to make a difference in the lives of both pets and their families.
Outside of work, I’m also a proud pet parent to 2 horses, 3 cats, and 1 dog. My own animals have always been a huge part of my life and are a big reason why I love what I do!
